Behavioral Health Consultants is the leading independent psychological consultation-liaison practice serving the Central Texas medical community. Founded in 1998, BHC has grown from serving one physician in one facility to a team of psychologists providing over 6,000 consults annually across acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, and long-term care settings.
Our group primarily covers St. David’s medical centers as well as multiple self-standing rehabilitation hospitals in and around the Greater Austin Area. We are seeking a candidate to help continue our longstanding role as a trusted behavioral health partner to medical teams across Central Texas.
Position Overview
Behavioral Health Consultants is seeking a licensed psychologist for hospital-based consultation-liaison work. This role is well suited for a psychologist who values clinical independence, strong medical collaboration, and meaningful work with medically complex patients. The psychologist will serve assigned facilities with substantial autonomy in managing clinical workflow, professional relationships, and day-to-day facility needs.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and treat depression, anxiety, adjustment, and somatic symptom presentations in a variety of medical settings
Support treatment adherence and rehabilitation participation
Address pain management, coping, and substance use concerns
Perform dementia, cognitive, and capacity evaluations
Conduct crisis interventions and suicide risk assessments
Address end-of-life issues, grief, and adjustment to serious illness
Evaluate family dynamics affecting medical treatment, discharge planning, or compliance
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and facility leadership

Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.)
Active Texas psychologist license, or immediate eligibility for Texas licensure
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Interest in hospital-based consultation-liaison psychology
Relevant experience in medical, rehabilitation, health psychology, geropsychology, neuropsychology, or crisis assessment settings preferred but not mandatory
Early career psychologists are encouraged to apply
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is clinically sound, self-directed, and comfortable working in medical environments. This psychologist should be able to communicate clearly with medical teams, manage consultative responsibilities, and provide practical interventions and recommendations that support patient care.
