Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Student Counseling Center within the Division of Student Affairs, has an opportunity for a full-time Psychologist. The selected candidate will work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary Student Counseling Center team. The Psychologist provides initial clinical assessment, brief psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation to a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. The Psychologist will design and implement psychoeducational programs and groups for students as well as provide mental health training and consultation for the campus community including students, faculty, and staff.

Primary Duties
- Provides initial clinical consultation, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy to a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate and professional school students.
- Provides group counseling, both psychoeducational and supportive.
- Provides peer consultation, as well as consultation to University faculty and staff regarding concerns about students and the campus environment.
- Implements and supports psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the campus community.
- Develops and participates in working relationships with other departments that share an interest in student wellness and personal development.
- Participates in University committees, task forces, and working groups that align with the mission of the Student Counseling Center and Division of Student Affairs.
- Completes and maintains timely and accurate records in compliance with ethical codes and state laws.
- Participates in additional professional outreach and initiatives based on the center's needs.
- Engages in professional development activities to maintain licensure/certification and qualify to supervise doctoral level trainees.
- Provides supervision and training to graduate students in the Training program.
- Performs other potential duties as assigned by the Student Counseling Center's Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Education: Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (PhD) or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) preferably from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program.
Experience: One (1) year of related experience.
Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience in a university counseling center is preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland or eligibility for licensure in the State of Maryland.
Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing brief therapy in a university counseling center.
- Outreach and group counseling experience.
- Mental health crisis intervention experience.
- Experience in clinical supervision and evaluation of clinical trainees.
- Experience providing culturally affirming and responsive therapy to a diverse student population.
- Experience in the use of brief intervention, goal-oriented non-weekly therapy model(s).
- Training in or exposure to one or more empirically validated treatments, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. A foundation in modern psychodynamic theory is welcomed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies utilizing proper application of diagnostic tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population using various interviewing techniques and consultative approaches.
- Ability to continuously seek improvements in order to support the goals and strategic mission of the program.
- Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for resolving problems and facilitating decision-making processes.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness. Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients and information obtained during care/treatment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act), and state regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to provide guidance and training to colleagues, trainees, and students. Leadership, coaching, and team building skills to strengthen and cultivate individual and group relationships.
Hiring Range: $96,000 - $103,000, commensurate with education and experience.
