Job Description
The Hope College Education Department invites applications for a tenure-track or non-tenure-track position in Emotional Impairments/Emotional/Behavior Disorders beginning in the fall of 2027. We seek candidates prepared to teach classes focusing on (1) characteristics of students with Emotional Impairments, (2) teaching elementary and secondary students with Emotional Impairments, (3) providing a theoretical foundation of classroom and behavior management and special education mandates, and (4) data-driven Instruction. Teaching experience working with students (PK-12) with Emotional Impairments/Behavioral Disorders is required.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in special education related to emotional impairments; coordinating and supervising clinical experiences; fostering positive relationships and partnerships with both area schools and private programs in the Greater Holland and Grand Rapids Community; and advising teacher candidates. Active participation in departmental and college initiatives is expected.

Rank is open and determined by experience in higher education, compensation is determined by rank.

About the Education Department:

The Hope College Education Department consists of a dynamic group of 14 faculty and three support staff. The department offers certification in Elementary (including a minor in Early Childhood Education) and Secondary with endorsements in Special Education (LD and EI) and ESL. The State of Michigan consistently ranks Hope's teacher education program as one of the top-tier teacher education programs in Michigan. The Hope College Education Department has full national accreditation.

Qualifications
Candidates with a Ph.D., Ed.D., or Master's degree will be considered for this position. General qualifications include a valid teaching certificate; a record of excellence in teaching and scholarly/creative activity; experience with and a commitment to diversity in education; knowledge and skills in assessment; application of technology for teaching, learning, and assessment; and effective interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in special education curriculum and demonstrated teaching experience with students with Emotional Impairments/Behavioral Disorders.
