Description
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide individual clinical assessment, psychological treatment, and case management for student-athletes.
- Develop and establish treatment plans and goals, including assisting with case management and coordination of mental health care for clinical referrals to outside resources for mental health and AOD services for student-athletes.
- Assess and respond to crisis intervention needs with individuals and groups within the athletics department.
- Maintain medical documentation and records, deliver individual performance consultations, assist with team sport psychology sessions, maintain credentialing, and participate in continuing education.
- Develop and implement sport psychology and personal development group interventions, including the development, management, and delivery of programming specific to student-athlete personal development, mental health and wellness, leadership, interpersonal effectiveness skills, and performance psychology.
- Provide medical staff consultation and participate in treatment teams, including mental health treatment teams and interdisciplinary communication with athletics medical staff. This responsibility will also include presentations, workshops, and event planning focused on the destigmatization and psychoeducation of mental health throughout the athletics department.
- Provide consultation to administrators and coaches regarding mental health and mental performance best practices, including educational and preventative presentations or workshops for staff and coaches.
- Develop and deliver sport psychology programmatic initiatives, including team-specific programs, collaboration with campus psychological services, and supervision of clinicians and learners where applicable.
- Budget accountability.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Competence and in-depth understanding of working with student-athletes from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to provide treatment and/or consultation across the spectrum of care for student-athletes.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully, and appropriately with varied populations in the department, university, and community.
- Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-stress environment.
- Ability to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, University of Arizona policies, and Department of Athletics policies.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to initiate, lead, and support value-added projects.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to remain self-motivated, results-oriented, and maintain a positive demeanor.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to plan, establish priorities, and successfully manage multiple priority projects.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and develop positive interpersonal relationships.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in related field required. In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Social Work (LCSW, Marriage and Family Counseling (LMFT) or other counseling-related field, in compliance with the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sport, higher education, or other related settings.
- Experience with training related to sport psychology and/or counseling.
- Experience understanding the unique aspects of the student-athlete population.
- Experience in treating trauma and trauma-related issues.
- Experience conducting AOD assessments and working with the student-athlete population on AOD-related issues.
