This position serves as the Chief Police Psychologist for the Michigan State Police.  The Chief Police Psychologist has both administrative and clinical responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Office of Behavioral Science, including its seven-day per week, 24-hour, on-call function. This employee formulates departmental policy and establishes procedures for the delivery of a wide range of police psychology, mental health intervention and prevention services to personnel of the Michigan Department of State Police. The Chief Police Psychologist is responsible for providing Office of Behavioral Science staff supervision; clinical psychology services to Michigan Department of State Police personnel and their dependents; critical incident services to Michigan law enforcement agencies; investigative support and emergency support services for  Michigan Department of State Police personnel and other Michigan law enforcement agencies; training to Michigan Department of State Police personnel and personnel from other Michigan law enforcement agencies; and internal management consultation including organizational behavior analysis.


Possession of a Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology.

At least four years of post-doctorate experience, part of which should be functioning as a psychologist for a law enforcement setting.  General experience with law enforcement officers and agencies. Direct experience providing therapy, testing, crisis intervention, and debriefings with law enforcement officers and other first responders.  Experience in clinical supervision and management/administration of a mental health service delivery system. Acquired experience with organizational dynamics and management consultation.  Must be willing to be on-call and, most importantly, willing to work in the field with troopers and command officers.

Alternate Education and Experience
Candidates must possess a license to practice psychology at the independent practice level in the State of Michigan; that is, licensed Ph.D. in clinical psychology or State of Michigan equivalent.
