Tottenham Hotspur is a world famous football club based in North London. Off the pitch, the Club has a strong and successful business model centered around building a platform for long-term success, which includes significant investment in the people who support our players, on and off the pitch.

The Club operates out of multiple sites, including a world class Training Centre in Enfield where all the First Team and the Academy’s training and coaching activities occur, and where the Medical department is based.



To create and lead a clearly defined sports psychology program specifically with our First Team Players and Staff.  The program must be aligned with that of the coaching and multidisciplinary support staff to co-create and deliver a strategy for performance, wellbeing, and the promotion of good mental health.  The overall strategy will build a mentally healthy, disciplined, and cohesive high-performance environment for both players and staff, promoting professionalism and coping skills. You will also need to effectively integrate with the First Team’s specialist sports psychiatrist and Academy psychologist to provide a connected treatment approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • To collaborate to promote psychological safety among the whole group of players and staff. 
  • To find innovative ways to provide psychological interventions that are effective across the diverse range of languages and cultures that exist within the first team players and staff.
  • To support the medical team to identify people who have difficulties with their mental wellbeing and collaborate with the team's sports psychiatrist.
  • To facilitate an environment in which our athletes are able to prepare psychologically for the demands of training and playing at an elite level.
  • Work closely with the coaching and multidisciplinary support staff to effectively align performance phycology with the performance needs of the coaches and athletes.
  • Support the development of strategies to encourage positive team dynamics and high performance under pressure.
  • Work with other support staff to monitor and connect with players to allow them an environment in which they can achieve optimal performance.
  • Attend daily Medical Department meetings and contribute effectively with the wider team.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and monitoring of integrated performance psychology.
  • Keep accurate medical records using our computerized notes system.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in elite sport within teams or with individuals.
  • Qualification in sports psychology.
  • HCPC registered – or appropriate international professional registration.
  • Post graduate qualification in Sports Psychology.
  • Satisfactory completion of relevant supervised postgraduate practice.

Continued Professional Development (CPD):

  • Maintain appropriate levels of continuous CPD for professional registration.
  • Attend appropriate in-house training and lead on sessions relating to sports psychology to the wider team.
