Cub Creek Science Camp is a residential summer camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 17. We are dedicated to providing an unforgettable and unique summer camp experience, but above all else, we strive to help our campers gain self-confidence, discover who they are, and make lasting friendships!

Position Description

Work cooperatively with Cabin Counselors and support staff to provide a healthy, safe, and enjoyable camp environment and experience for all campers. Camper Advocates are responsible for supporting cabin counselors in the effective behavior management and emotional support of campers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Cabin Counselors and campers in creating a positive cabin environment
• Communicate with cabin counselors, camp office, and program directors or camper wellbeing and experience
• Support camper emotional and behavioral needs with issues such as homesickness and refer and report incidents to camp wellness coordinator and program director
• Assist cabin counselors in organizing special camper experiences such as birthday celebrations
• Ensure the safety of all campers when participating in camp activities
• Schedule and facilitate special events including evening activities, early-bird, sneakouts, and night-owls
• Collect camper schedule preferences and assign campers to courses and classes each day

Benefits

Starting pay $4000 for 12 week summer. Additional $100 credit in camp store for snacks and supplies. Housing, meals, and laundry included. Weekend work is required, this position requires availability to work on-site 7 days a week for the contract period. 2-hour break provided each day, and 1 scheduled day off each week. Additional leadership training and certifications are available to the right candidates, including high ropes course and lifeguard certifications.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Camper Advocates will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions. An average of 5 miles of walking is expected each day and all staff must be comfortable walking on uneven ground for extended periods. Willing and able to sleep in shared housing in a cabin with other counselors and campers, single or private accommodation is not available. Comfortable sleeping outdoors at least one night a week and enthusiastically supporting campers to sleep out. Comfortable being near a range of animals including snakes, spiders, lizards and other native- and non-native species. Able to sustain energy and enthusiasm throughout the full work day. Weekend work is required, this position requires availability to work on-site 7 days a week for the contract period. Functions, activities, and working conditions may change or new ones may be added during the course of employment to support the operation of camp.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills:

• Completed at least 2 years of college education. Experience working with children or teens in a camp or educational setting preferred.
• A desire to positively impact the life of a child and willingness to put the needs of campers first
• Have a passion for science, animals and childhood development
• Able to effectively communicate ideas, and instructions in a constructive manner
• Self-motivated and able to work on tasks and assigned goals with minimal supervision
• Be willing to learn new concepts and skills
• Able to work in a team and both give and take direction from others
• Willingness to adhere to camp’s code of conduct, rules and policies
