NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, 815 Broadway, located in Brooklyn. The goal of this Center is to provide outpatient services to patients at high risk of contracting Covid-19, as well as short- and long-term follow-up care for those recovering from the disease. Preliminary evidence links Covid-19 to potential heart damage, lung injuries, blood clots, and mental health conditions. Gotham Health expects this Center will address these issues when open in December.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for thorough psychiatric assessments, including mental status exams, suicide assessments and a variety of symptom checklists to determine appropriate level of care.
  • Must have knowledge of DSM V Diagnoses and Classification, and all other diagnostic categories, and interest/knowledge/ or previous experience working in psychiatric treatment.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques and other therapy modalities to meet with a variety of patients who present for treatment.
  • Determine next steps for patients who present with complex psychiatric issues and assist in the collection of collateral information to assist in discharge planning.
  • Complete all required forms and paperwork to process admission successfully.
  • Provide other documentation as assigned, ensuring that all documents are completed in a timely fashion, including Comprehensive Treatment Plan, Weekly Treatment Plans, and Discharge Summaries.
  • Participates in psychology staff meetings and Internship and Externship training programs.
  • Supervises psychology interns and externs as assigned by the Director of Psychology or Designate.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings as necessary. Work closely with both inpatient psychiatry staff, outpatient staff, and managed care services.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Psychology, Designate or the Unit Chief, including coverage on other services when needed as assigned by the Department Chair or Director of Psychology.
  • Must complete annual trainings in Preventing and Management of Crisis Situations (PMCS) and Self Restraint and Ligature Risk.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of two years of graduate work consisting of at least 60 graduate credits (semester hours) in psychology, in an accredited graduate program leading to a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, health psychology, or neuropsychology, plus two years of satisfactory full-time experience in one of the above-named areas under the supervision of a qualified psychologist or psychiatrists in a hospital.
  • Note: Completion of an APA-approved internship in professional psychology will be deemed evidence of meeting all supervised experience requirements, including the two years of full-time experience.
  • It is expected that all staff members who have obtained a doctoral degree in psychology and who have direct patient contact for clinical purposes will obtain a State license as soon as they are eligible.
