The Department of Psychology and Philosophy in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a tenure-track open-rank Professor position in its NASP-approved specialist program in School Psychology to begin in the Fall 2026 semester. This position can be filled at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. Duties will include teaching graduate-level courses and supervising field-based practical experiences within the Specialist in School Psychology Program. In addition, there are other opportunities to assume other psychology-related instructional areas as needed, such as undergraduate teaching in areas of expertise, and advising and mentoring students.
Requirements
Research and applied interests are open. Successful candidates are required to hold a doctoral degree in School Psychology from an APA-accredited and/or NASP-approved program by the time of appointment, be eligible for licensure as both a Psychologist and Licensed School Psychologist in the state of Texas, and demonstrate evidence of or strong potential for scholarship in areas relevant to school psychology. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience as a school psychologist practitioner and the potential for acquiring extramural funding. Candidates must be committed to a student-centered approach and passionate about working with a student population. Applications from individuals who are ABD will be considered, but the doctoral degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Sam Houston State University is located in Huntsville, TX, in the beautiful piney woods of East Texas, approximately one hour north of the ethnically and culturally Houston metropolitan area. SHSU is classified as a “Doctoral University: High Research Activity” by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. - One to two representative publications
- Three letters of recommendation. For ABD applicants, one letter must be from the dissertation director confirming that the Ph.D. requirements will be met by August 25, 2026.
- Transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate education (applicants may submit unofficial transcripts for initial screening; however, official transcripts are required for credential review prior to hiring)
